Description
F4U Corsairs from Marine Fighting Squadron 321 (VMF-321), nicknamed the 'Hell’s Angels', fire up at their home base on Guam before a long-range strike against Japanese-held islands. Droppable external fuel tanks are secured beneath the aircraft.
After a thorough training period in the States, VMF-321 arrived at Barakoma in late 1943. They soon moved to Green Island in the spring of 1944, and finally to Guam where they finished their Pacific combat tour in mid-December. 321’s combat record was 39.66 confirmed aerial kills plus 12 probables.
